Simon Williams’s Topic
Simon Williams hails from Manchester in the UK, but has made the Netherlands his home for the past seven years. He is an expert in andragogy, having completed a masters in post compulsory education and learning in 2011. Since then, Simon has worked in several educational management roles, focusing on integrating impactful, long term, and sustainable learning mechanisms.
In 2016, Simon answered his calling and joined the harm reduction field. Having grown up around substance use, this was a real opportunity to use his skills to make a positive difference to the lives and health of people who use drugs. As Learning Lead at Mainline Foundation, Simon develops capacity strengthening programmes targeted at harm reduction practitioners who work directly with people who use drugs. Over the years, Simon has collaborated with partners across the Africa and Asia regions, developing and overseeing the implementation of context specific, practical harm reduction interventions.
Simon’s interests, besides substance use and social justice, include sport and fitness. He combines movement and physical activity within learning sessions, engaging the body as well as the mind within the learning process.
