The 11th HIT Hot Topics conference Liverpool, 10 November
What a wonderful conference we had, you can find a report on the conference (originally from DDN Magazine) from the link below. We are now in full planning mode for the 2024 conference.
Making the most of us being together in the same city
As always with our conference we are arranging side events both the evening before and the evening of the conference. We know from speaking to you all every year that these are some of the most important social times of the year and often are the only times we get to be around so many like-minded people.
YOU CAN ATTEND THESE EVENTS EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT ATTENDING THE CONFERENCE.
Harm Reduction Cafe
The Bridewell – 1 Campbell Square, Liverpool, L1 5FB
Harm reduction’s wilderness years appear to be over. With a renewed focus on harm reduction and a huge shift in the drugs market anticipated, now is the time to come together and organise around harm reduction.
Attendees joined us at the Harm Reduction Café on 9 November to hear about a proposal for a Harm Reduction Alliance, a loose collective of harm reductionists who will work together to ensure that services are prepared to respond quickly to changes in the drugs market and to disseminate information in a timely fashion.
CAVERN CLUB (LIVE LOUNGE) – 10 MATHEW ST, LIVERPOOL L2 6RE
Our annual Cavern Club charity event is where the HIT team finally get to relax and enjoy ourselves. Always featuring the Sensational HIT Soul Band and one or two other invited bands, this is a night of music in one of the most famous venues in the world. We know that for many people who come to our conference each year this is the highlight of the events!
Now an independent researcher and consultant, Beccy’s personal experience with illicit drug use led her to recognise the crucial need for harm reduction in her teenage years. Despite existing needle and syringe programs, the alarming surge in overdose deaths during the 1990s drove home the fact that more action was required.
At HIT we have been running the Hot Topics Harm Reduction Conference since 2011. Other than the short forced break (that whole pandemic thing… remember) we have flown the flag for harm reduction in the UK by bringing together some of the greatest leaders and advocates from around the world. You can find an archive of previous conferences over on the main HIT website.
